Voice Problem Support

community for people with voice problems started by The Lary Project

Hi I am new to the website. I am a 53 year old male and live in Sydney Australia. I have had voice and swallow problems since I was aged 30 following surgical removal of a carotid body tumor in my throat. I have vocal palsy on the left side and In order to remove the tumor, my surgeon had to cut a nerve which has limited the movement in my tongue.

Its been a  constant problem which has deteriorated over time to the point my speech is unrecognizable and people cannot understand me.I would be interested in hearing from other members as to how you deal with the social isolation, and embarrassment this causes. I would also be interested whether members work and if you do in what type of jobs you work. I look forward to anyone wanting to share their experience and stories. Greg
