Voice Problem Support

community for people with voice problems started by The Lary Project

My life is completely different now. I still have the same job and it has given me confidence. I have never had any other voice problems. The only thing is when I call my branches they instantly know it is me because of my distinct voice. I can live with that though.

I have continued to go to the gym and now I am at a good weight. Most of the people I am in contact with now have no idea I have ever had voice surgery. I am 38 now but most people think I am much younger. It is because I act much younger. For the first time in my life, I can actually have fun. At work, people listen to what I have to say.

Two weeks ago, I had to speak in front of 100 people on a stage. You will always be nervous but I did fine. Many years ago, I would not have been able to sleep the night before. I was only nervous because I wanted to do a good job. Last week, I was asked to go to Winston Salem, NC to speak to another group of 100 people. However, these people did not know me at all. I had to drive by the hospital where I had my surgery.

It made me realize how far I have come. I hope someone reads this story and realizes they are not alone. There is always hope even though it seems like there will never be.

Jeffrey, your story is very inspiring! I can relate to many parts of it. Growing up it must have been so horrible, almost like living in your own private hell. It's easy for people to say to you to get help, or to do something about the bullying (even from teachers, its aweful!) But actually doing it is a whole different thing and can be extremely difficult and daunting. I know at times it must have felt like things where never going to improve, and that you where stuck like that for the rest of your life ,but I am extremely pleased your story has a happy ending!! And although you will look back on those days and remember all the negatives, I'm sure it has made you a much stronger person because of it.

Thank you for sharing your story!
Oh one more thing I wanted to add, it is proof that no matter how long something goes on for or how difficult it is, there is always hope! And thats something that can inspire us all.
