Profile Information

How would you define your voice problem?
vocal fold nodules
Tell us a bit about you.... (optional)
I am married with 2 kids who are both at university. I worked in a call centre for 7years and developed a nodule on my vocal chord and damaged my tonsils as a result. I had my tonsils removed last week after suffering recurrent tonsillitis for 2years. I was made redundant by my company a year ago because I fell in the category that was set to select who should go. The main category was having been off sick for 6months in the year. And because I lost my voice for 6months before my condition was diagnosed, I was made redundant. My lawyer decided to fight my case for compensation free of charge. She researched my condition and felt the need to make my previous employer and others aware of this condition so they can take due care of call centre staff.
Tell us what you would like to get from this site/The Lary Project.... (optional)
I would like to talk about the condition and how it affects my daily life and any solutions to problems I encounter as a result of this condition. I would also like to make friends with people with the same or similar conditions. And finally to be an advocate for people with voice disorders

Hi Effie and welcome to VPS. I'm sorry to hear about your problems regarding work and hope that your lawyer manages to win your case for you and also get the message out there about the condition in the hope that it saves others from developing similar problems.  I would recommend the Lary meeting in London if you can get there as I'm sure you would find it helpful meeting others with voice problems, I know I have.  If your interested I would suggest you contact Terry who can give you all the details. Take care. Best wishes Irene x

Hi, Effie,

Welcome to our forum, I hope you do find support here, I can endorse Irene's suggestion that you try to attend the Lary support meetings, as I always find them really helpful and motivating, and you get to meet a great bunch of people.

Is your lawyer attempting to make a case for industrial injury?, my speech therapist told me that call centre workers make up a large number of her patients, so you are not alone.

Janet.
