I've had a voice problem for approx 3 years that just started with it getting quieter and gradually got worse with g.p saying it's stress and prescribing antidepressants. I was finally sent to ENT 2 years ago and sent for speech n language who just gave me breathing exercises and suggesting steaming. It didn't work and I gave up going and continued to try and live with it believing that it was all stress as had other things in life going on too.
Over the past year it has got to the point where I speak very quiet and sound like a strangulated cat and often find breathing really difficult when talking. I was referred back to ENT in January and diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia and advised for 3 months of speech n language therapy before will consider the botox treatment. I'm at a loss as to why I need to wait so long particularly when they see I have history over 2 years!! I also can't get to see the speech n language until 9th March for the initial assessment for that treatment to start. It's taken away who I am and affecting me working big time!!! Most people treat me like an alien and that I have no brains when I need to make conversation which is frequently in my work. Confidence I once had has been shattered by this debilitating condition.

Hi I'm a 50 year who for the best part has had a successful career. That's gone to pot now as with ever decreasing confidence and ability to speak my live gas been turned upside down. I tell myself that I'm fortunate with a loving husbund who tries to understand and that at least I am healthy otherwise.
