Tell us a bit more about your voice problem... (optional)
Since writing my original description of my problem I have been diagnosed with laryngeal amyloidosis which is incredibly rare. Because of the numerous biopsies my larynx is now pretty bad and no amount of speech therapy has helped. Feeling very low at the moment and just wish it wasn't such an invisible disability (I got loads more sympathy recently when I had a mild fracture of the arm!).
Tell us a bit about you.... (optional)
Following surgery to remove a polyp and further surgery to inject (I think) some saline behind my vocal fold my voice has deteriorated dramatically. Have had speech therapy which hasn't helped and really feel I am at the end of the line and getting pretty depressed about it. Like the video I now feel I've lost my personality and find talking such an effort that I avoid it as much as possible.
Tell us what you would like to get from this site/The Lary Project.... (optional)
Emotional support, maybe some hope that there is a cure!!!
Sorry to hear that you are getting depressed, I can sympathise :)
Are you continuing with speech therapy?
This is a really great site and if you get the chance to attend the meetings I would definitely recommend it as it is lovely to meet people with whom you can be open, honest and who (as I found and appreciated the most) have the patience to listen properly to you without feeling embarrassed!
I have a condition called sulcus vocalis which affects both sides of the vocal chords and am only able to speak in a whisper with great effort. I am having an operation (hopefully) on the 19th Jan to lift both of the sulcus's... My consultant has told me my voice will never be the same but may(only a maybe) improve after the op and long term voice therapy. Although I work full time and my employers have changed my job role to accomodate me I still feel very much on 'the outside' of life around me...I know just how you feel!! Hopefully 2011 will be loads better for us all
HI Lisa, Welcome to VPS. I'm sorry to hear that you're having so many problems with your voice. I can appreciate how demoralising it is when treatment doesn't have the effect that you had hoped for, having been there myself. You may find the Lary meeting a great help if you can possibly make it down to London as you would meet with a lovely group of people who know exactly what it's like coping with a voice problem. If you are interested ......and I highly recommend it......you can get information by contacting Terry. I hope your voice therapy is helping and that you are starting to see some improvement. Take care. Best wishes Irene x
How is everything with you,I picked interest on you after going through your short profile and deemed it necessary to write you immediately.I have something very vital to disclose to you,but I found it difficult to express myself here, since it's a public site.Could you please get back to me on(email@example.com)for the full details. Have a nice day.
thanks Pauline Atta.
